Summer School on Cultural Studies and Intercultural Communication at the University of Genoa

The Summer School "Cultural Studies and Cultural Dialog in the Intercultural Environment Focused on Community Engagement" took place at the University of Genoa in the period of July 24 till July 28, 2023. The WURCES team was represented by Oksana Holovko-Havrysheva, head of the JMCE and Oksana Krayevska, JMCE senior research fellow. The Summer School was organized by the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence of the National Dragomanov University "European Studies of Social Innovation in Education" in the cooperation with the Dipartimento di Scienze della Formazione of the University of Genoа (Italy) and the Bodgan Khmelnytskyy Melitopol State Pedagogical University (Ukraine).

During the Summer School participants focused on various aspects of community engagement, intercultural communication and diversity and the role of HEIs in fostering social progress from the international perspective and Ukrainian realities. During the Summer School Oksana Holovko-Havrysheva addressed the interconnections between intercultural communication and European Studies as a interdisciplinary field of teaching and research at Ukrainian HEIs and Oksana Krayevska focused on the relevance and practices of intercultural communication in university life with particular attention to the internationalization as the main challenge for Ukrainian HEIs. The event was organized by Marja Nesterova (National Pedagogic Dragomanov University) and Diana Spulber (University of Genoa) and offered a fruitful discussion on wide range of experiences the University of Genoa and Ukrainian partner have developed in the pre-war time and during the war in the area of Cultural Studies and community engagement.
