Ivan Franko National University of Lviv: University Third Mission Strategy adopted

On December 20, 2024, the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv General Staff Conference was held remotely using the Microsoft Teams teamwork center. A total of 249 delegates registered to participate in the Conference. During the Conference the annual report of the acting rector Volodymyr Melnyk was presented and new strategic priorities for the university's development were highlighted. Among the strategic priorities, the University's third mission was addressed. The University introduced amendments to its Development Strategy for 2021-2025 in July 2024, setting the third mission among prioritized areas of university life by the Senat Decision of 1 July 2024, Protocol No. 69/7. On December 20, 2024, the General Staff Conference approved the University's Third Mission Strategy.

The model of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv's “third mission” is based on the following values: social responsibility, sustainable development, resilience, innovation, inclusion, environmental responsibility, academic integrity, trust, and national and patriotic education.

The main goal of the “third mission” is to actively involve the University in socio-economic processes at the local, national, and international levels, to enhance the educational, scientific, and social role of the University, and to multiply its historical, scientific, cultural, artistic, library, archival, museum heritage, to promote actions and development processes in favor of sustainability and inclusion, and to acquire entrepreneurship skills and active citizenship.
